An inchworm decides to leave his home to explore the World

Mike And The Tree

by Eric Corsten

There was an inchworm named Mike,
Who lived in an ugly brown tree.
He liked to laugh and to sing,
With his very best friend Willie.

One day Mike was sad and said,
"I need something new for to see.
I'll inch the rest of this world,
So foot-loose and so fancy-free."

Down the branch, to inch the world,
So joyous and happy was he.
On the way, he saw his friend,
Who just happened to be a bee.

The bee said...

See the country, see the hills,
And the rocks will be by the sea.
See New York and see Dallas,
Don't forget about Tennessee.

I wish you hope and promise,
But stay away from Missouri.
I'm glad to see you're leaving
This oh so brown and ugly tree.

First Mike stopped in the country,
At a tattered and old farmhouse.
He inched down to the cellar,
Where he met a friendly black mouse.

"I left an ugly brown tree,
It must be so grand to live here."
"I'm bored and lonely you see."
The mouse, said to Mike with a tear.

"The country is not for you,
It's for people like farmer Joe.
Poor Joe has nothing to do,
And poor Joe has nowhere to go."

Mike inched his way into town,
Where he met a cool cat named Ike.
Ike, whispered to him crassly,
"Pssst...Hey you! wanna buy this bike?"

Mike said, "I'm getting tired
Of inching around here all day.
Please take all of my money,
You can bet I'll be on my way."

As soon as he left the town,
The bike, it had broke in two.
He was without his money,
And his dream that never came true.

So Mike inched for many miles,
Until he couldn't inch no more.
 He heard a familiar voice,
It was one he couldn't ignore.

It was Mike's old friend Willie,
And now his smile could be restored.
Willie asked about his trip,
And the world that Mike had explored.

Then Mike said...

I saw the country and hills.
Saw the rocks sitting by the sea.
I saw New York and Dallas,
But, forget about Tennessee.

There was no hope or promise.
I could only see misery.

I was so alone...

I'm glad to be home...

In this brown and ugly tree.
