Some things I like about spring, but not everything
An English Spring
by PhilipCatshill
Forsythia paints hedgerows yellow,
Graceful daffodils with flowers bow, While in ranks like soldiers, tulips bloom And chase away winter's freezing gloom To attract a mate, the blackbirds sing Then feel the warmth of returning spring Darkness chased away by sunshine bright, Lengthening day giving shorter night. Nature returns from its winter's sleep, Turnout the cows, new born lambs for sheep. Migrating birds fly back on the wing Announce to all the return of spring. Honey bees awake in humming hives, Gardeners plant out lettuce and chives. Deciduous trees break out in leaf, But spring also heralds certain grief If from working, an income you earn; It's time for the dreaded tax return! |
