Summer Retreat, Life's Relief!

The older you get, a season will grate at you;
summer or winter will affect what you do.
Icy fingers keep some behind frosty glass,
others become parched by summer's blast.

Summer makes torture out of lawn chores;
from useless sweat glands, sweat pours.
Summer's bounty isn't worth the extra trip,
as legs cramp and lungs labor in arid grip.

Looking out of the window, kids play a million ways,
reminds one just how little it takes to enjoy the day.
Sounds of kids enjoying sports at their now closed school,
brings back childhood memories of exploring at the pool.

Steamed crabs and barbecues, smells can't fail to imbibe;
inviting knock on the door, you are not going to hide.
Power is knocked out for days by winds of hurricane;
you amble out to neighbors,
when a child it was just the same...

As your body ages and the seasons seem more severe,
remember what made them special, that you revere.
Comfort and effort become less a concern,
as you find reasons to come out and renew your spirit,
with another wonderful season to discern.

Freestyle poem.

I haven't been in a good mood all summer, but was asked to do a summer poem. It has been very hot and humid which I never really tolerate well, and with work and writing more on my mind, summer is passing under my radar. In this poem, I am statistically in the middle of my life, but with knowing so many elderly either summer or winter gets worse for them. Yet the one thing I did enjoy the most about this summer is, having my senses stimulated enough, to constantly remind me what I always enjoyed about summer, and allowed the greatest appreciation for when I did get out a bit.
