Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
My youngest daughter is getting married tomorrow

What if ...

SARAH – PRINCESS

What if …

Time held its breath and slowed a while
I'd hold your hand and see your smile
As I did when you were only mine
And we dreamed our dreams together.

What if …

I'd could see again those curly locks
And little sun-burnt freckles spots
The childish delight in your eyes
When Jess, Bogey and Sam arrived

What if …

Again we meet when school was done
And stop for sweets on our way home
To listen to your new learned rhymes
Those were wonderful wondrous times

What if …

I could watch again as you slowly changed
And see your body rearrange
Into a girl and then a woman
And still think you were mine.

But time demands – and we must abide
That dreams of old be put aside
Your new love now holds your hand
And the future calls for other plans

But even now –
When your children call
To dry their eyes after a fall
When your husband smiles and gives a wink
I'm still allowed to dream and think

What if …
