White men's empty promises.
Thanks for Giving
by Aussie
Red dust rising, not surprising
Shuffle of shackled feet Cold skies give way to heat rising Once proud race gives way to defeat. You promised us much, took our land Chained our men, made women slaves Like children we took your hand Danced in rolling waves. Chained and bound - death seat Our land cries, death rattle Sitting in the dusty street White men lied - treat us like cattle. That was long ago, nowhere to go We got sick on your food; drunk on rum Now we have nothing, our people walk slow Welfare is our way of life - humdrum. Thanks for giving your diseases and strife Thanks for taking our pride and freedom No written language, no life Thanks for telling us about your kingdom. Thanks for taking all we love Making us slaves to white man's ways Maybe a suit of clothes from God above Preacher man, flour and tea, new days. We remember our mother Uluru Mighty monolith from eons ago Tourists wouldn't have a clue Thanks for giving black fellas a go. |

We were the first Australians, peaceful hunter-gatherers. Whites invaded our land, make empty promises to our people. Chained and bound they fed us flour, sugar, tea and rum. All these foods made us sick. They took our women for 'service' in their big white houses, called on them for sex. Our race is mixed with white blood and our children prefer the cities not our culture. Religious whites converted our forefathers by force, they have much to answer for. Our love of the land, children, culture still exists, slowly dying. Thanks for reading. We celebrate National Sorry Day May 26. It has taken 200 years for the whites to say "sorry."
