A little moral story

The honeybee

by artemis53

I have a little story
It's just for you and me.
The heroine is simple,
She's just a honeybee.

Well, this one had a problem
Twas very plain to see.
When born without a stinger
How can you be a bee?

She kept it from the others.
Stayed busy in her day
collected nectar furtively,
dropped off, then on her way.

She didn't feel so special,
At times she'd barely thrive.
And slept outside at nighttime
Not entering the hive.

One day she was called forward,
Directly to the queen.
Her busy buzz was silenced
As she came on the scene.

For deep within the honeycomb
The queen did spy her face.
She beckoned her to take a seat.
Forlorn, she took a place.

"I've watched you as you've gathered
and toiled amongst the flowers.
The others stay for minutes.
Why do you stay for hours?"

The little bee looked sadly down,
Her secret couldn't keep.
With soulful eyes she met the queen's
and did commence to weep.

"I beg forgiveness, Highness.
I should have told you so.
I was born without a stinger.
I have hidden this, I know."

"For bees they must have stingers
to guard them from their prey.
They bring the honey back to you,
for sweetness is your way."

"To be a bee one must work hard
to gather through the day.
I do my best, complete my task
in hopes that I might stay."

The queen turned fully to her,
Enveloping the space.
"It's time to talk, just you and I."
"Alright" Bee said, "Your grace."

"My workers they are loyal.
They're trusted tried and true
And bring me riches from the land.
It's what they're trained to do."

"But honeybees do have a curse
They'll die if they do sting,
And all those riches will be lost.
The Hive won't gain a thing."

"So take your place amongst the ranks.
You've earned your spot you see.
It's not the buzz or hum or sting.
Tis sweetness makes the bee.

This is for my granddaughter. I hope that she will like it as she grows. She will be one on the first.
