He Hears Her Weeping

by sweetwoodjax

Behind The Door Contest Winner
He listens to her weeping
behind the wooden door.
His own silent tears
drop unnoticed to the floor.

His broken heart is aching
to hold her his his arms.
He vowed he would protect her
and keep her from all harm.

But life threw them a curve ball
and their world was torn apart.
The death of their little girl
had broken both their hearts.

When the door is opened,
she wears a crooked smile.
He discreetly wipes his cheeks.
They fake happiness for a while.

Nighttime comes to their sleepy town
and their teardrops fall like rain.
They hold each other in their arms
and share their secret pain.

Writing Prompt
Write a poem that describes what is behind the door. Any type of poetry welcomed.

Behind The Door
Contest Winner

When I saw the writing prompt, I thought of Barking Dog and Big Tom NY and others who have lost children. How they have to present a mask of happiness to the world and hide their pain at times. Thank you to Irene Davidson for great picture
