Going back to move forward
I trace a path beneath a billowed sky
As images return like silken screens
Upon these sultry sands my heart shall try
Releasing last remains of summer scenes
I feel the gentle touch of ocean's breeze
Upon the shore where love caressed my hand
My eyes search out the ever cresting seas
All capped in white on breeze's stern command
I ask the wind to hold my heart's chagrin
Then reach inside and sweep my grief away
So certain she will cleanse my pain within
My shallow breath grows deeper through the day
The smoothness of her ever-present stir
Erodes the swale of sadness born from death
My pain dissolves within horizon's blur
With only softened fragments on my breath
I trawl through rippling waves in dimming sun
Then cast my gaze beyond this sullen shore
My focus falls on chapters left undone
Like washed up shells still waiting to explore
At times I feel a breeze twist through my hair
But now my soul finds comfort in her wake
The fragments of her heart, while always there
Propel me t'ward a love I can't forsake
