Heaven as a Mountain Stream
The Ballad of a Vision
by AlvinTEthington
I dream of Heaven before my time; There is a mountain stream With flow and hope and grace sublime. I wonder what these mean... I long for ocean fog and spray-- No wish to tarry here, For it is not for me to stay, Although the air is clear. The Lord then sends me on my way Upon capricious seas Where I keep human cares at bay And trust Christ is my lee. I would have stayed in Heaven more, For God did offer me A chance to be on that fair shore; Repose God proferred me. The riverbank was fine to see; In peaks I did abide... But majesty is not for me-- The Lord, not I, will guide. So with all creatures shall I live; A mortal still am I. To God the glory I shall give Until in death I lie. And when the Reaper comes to claim My body as his own, God's wonders I shall then acclaim "And grace will take me home." For I remain with you but yet A vision do I see Where Lord and creatures are then met For all eternity. |
