What Beauty Fills The Sky This Day

by danpald

What beauty fills the sky this day
Only a banner that waves in play
That is what some would say
During the long parades today

Times have been when not in play
Waves the banner on display
Bombs have fallen all around
Yet the banner waves still proud

Red the blood of those fallen heroes
Blue the sky to raised heads of widows
White the purity found in freedom sought
For now the families are here well taught

When the banner rises high
Does the heart not breathe a sigh
For this banner of the Red, White and Blue
Is the Flag that today renders our due
