Dreaming Of Disco

by sherrygreywolf

Disco Inferno Poem Contest Winner

I’m dreaming of 1979
when disco was king of the scene.
I remember me at twenty-one
Wild and free and a dancin’ queen.

The mirror ball bounces light like flames
As it spins over dancers below.
Fog diffuses and drifts to the floor,
Like smoke from a disco inferno.

The beat is pounding, tensions unwind,
We're dancin' and out on the town
Bodies moving, slick with sweat -
Thank God it’s Friday and we're gonna get down.

I know we both love the nightlife
And I don’t want to let you go.
Please hold me close and keep dancing
I want to feel the music flow.

The club is closed, it’s 3AM
We shimmer with lycra & stones
The last dance we’re dancin’ in the street;
The music we hear ours alone.

Disco Inferno Poem
Contest Winner

I had so much fun pulling memories from the disco era to make this poem happen! I tried to use as many disco titles or lyric-inspired lines as I could - can you find them all?

To all the disco groups from the 70's - Thanks for the great memories!
