Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
The Piano Man
by Janelle
I loves to play me ol' pianna It's me faverit thing to do Even tho' she's real dilapidated And the timber's all mildewed. The front panel fell orf years ago And the pedals are down-right stiff Plus, the frame's near rusted out and some notes 'ave lost their pitch. I s'pose it may have somethin' to do With the state of me abode, 'cos There ain't no roof, or walls or floor Nor windows to be closed. Nope, just me and my pianna with nature's chorus joining in making music that's so beaut I betcha heaven's listenin'. Aye, she's a bonza ol' pianna a real beauty to behold And still makes the sweetest music Even tho' she's tired and old. So until she finally calls it quits Or me self gives up the ghost I'll tinkle her keys to me heart's delight 'Cos it's what I likes doin' the most. |

The spelling is incorrect on purpose, as it is the way I imagined the man in the photo to speak.
Beaut - Oz slang for beautiful
Bonza - Oz slange for fantastic, a real prize
Betcha - I bet you ....
listenin' - should be read as three syllables - lis-en-in.
My husband and I visited Marysville this week, to see how the township, almost totally detroyed by the fires a year ago, was getting on. One of the things that thrilled us both was that so many pieces of amazing sculpture, made from wood, terrcotta, clay etc, that formed part of the famous Bruno's garden, had been salvaged and repaired.
We watched a video of the resident's efforts to restore their town and I was taken by the footage of the sculpture of the old man being returned to the garden, to sit at his piano. I felt quite emotional, as it was a symbol of normality returning to the town and a treasured part of its history being restored. This poem was prompted by a photo I took of that sculptures (Pictured with the poem)which is in the perfect setting. Many of the sculptures have a comical air to them and it is a lovely, whimsical place to visit.
