MIKE K2
Mike playing his Theremin to paint an atmosphere from the ether for the tricker-treaters at Halloween.

To Jack-O-Lantern lighted
smiles, frowns and shrieks.
A frenzy of character clad kids
as you open the door and greet;
with bags already open and almost a
demand they yell, "Trick or treat!"

Almost before the candy is in, they run to
the next house, already the next treat they seek.

Everyone comes out once a year to
celebrate Halloween for just one day.
Could you really imagine, Halloween
played out with out a sighted end
with more of the same , in store for you
at the morrow's very next vexing bend.

The trepidation that playeth without a
celebratory atmosphere and never goes away.

Daily walks that are beset with hard ashen-
scabbed women who whore for their addiction.
Mean scary faces headed for their next fix,
barely jut from darkened bus stop cover;
begging for cigarettes or money from you,
or with intimidation , as for a victim to uncover.

Met with your eyes of staunch, stiff-necked steeliness;
as you slip right on by, these zombies of affliction.

The hounds of Hades are always in tow and follow
you unfailingly with their own duties at your heel.
Supermarkets, fuel companies, insurance agencies,
the government tax bureau and public utility;
they're never far behind, observing with scent and glance,
just for the chance, as you work harder and make more money.

You think that your life will be but a bit more fruitful,
as one breaks from the pack, your meager scraps they steal.

For a bit of solace, food and drink you decide to
stop off for a respite at a nice neighborhood bar.
A lone woman talks you up and says at last,
"I found the best," only to then turn to ridicule and spurn;
as you find that the person who became a hopeful fruit
at the apple dunk, was rotten and contained a worm.

Suffering the laugher and foisted rejection, always trying
to be their best, despite friendship never going very far.

Disgraced and the bars joke; you beat a hasty retreat
back to your safe and secure abode, your cherished home.
Cloistered and wrapped in that house with windows that block
out the sound, though each room contains a sublime specter.
Wishing you were some how better, filled with remorse,
fated wishes, dashed hopes, guilt and continual conjecture.

No matter where you try to hide, demons, ghosts, witches, court
jesters, and unfathomable horrors within you always roam.

So this Halloween...

Do you open the door and delight in those wonderful Halloween sights,
dress up in some aspect of yourself that garners for all, fear;
or something that others will find whimsical, enchanting or dear...

Or, do you look out the darkened windows of your home
and your heart, only with vacant disdain and spite?

Author Notes
What brought this out was the fact that my house has once again has been acting up and it doesn't help when the animals get weird as well. It made me wonder about a Halloween that would never end. It then, wasn't hard to find things that everyone may either have experienced or would understand to lend itself to the nature behind Halloween.

How will I be this Halloween? Just as I am in real life, as I enjoy setting up my Theremin and serenading the tricker treaters. Instead of old grim, I plan to use some smoke and lighting and appear in a surgeons costume that is painted with metallic pigments.
