Driving the Distance
by Mrs. KT
"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Lao-tzu
<<<~~~>>> Driving away from time To a place I've never been To a future I cannot foresee A thousand familiar yesterdays Call their memories out to me: Fifty Twelve Five Two More than years More than places More than regrets More than faces They are all the road maps I will ever need To seal the distance from Arrogance Bigotry Anger Greed At every curve At every bend The lines of truth Merge and intersect With no discernible end But hanging onto the past Is like trying to capture A mirror's reflection Or hold back fallen tears; I've done that far too often All these many, many years Throw away the guideposts Leave them far behind I'll call you when I've finally arrived, Should I ever change my mind But for now All you need to ever know Is that I am on my way And this time, I really must let go... I won't stop for assistance, Even if I get lost I'll just keep going As long as it takes - Whatever the cost... Driving away from time To a place I've never been To a future I cannot foresee... A thousand familiar yesterdays Call their memories out to me... <<<~~~>>> |
