Too amazed to be frightened,
joltingly, your nerves are delighted.
More light flashes then Tech-no,
Hollywood would never duplicate
this light show.
Have you ever been out on the
rolling seas with a life raft?
It is like being caught between warring
ships of the line, exchanging cannon
broadsides from their stately craft.
Those sounds are amplified by the
canyon walls and as it reverberates.
Your awe it stimulates and within
every living cell, it vibrates!
Lightning is like a whirling dervish
dancing from cloud to cloud, quite a
few come sliding to the ground.
The air is so alive with this plasmic
energy,
the five to ten seconds of constant and
brilliant illumination astound.
This light and sound show
is not to be left undone.
The forest floor changes from black,
to lighter shades of gray, then
white with it's ability to stun.
The pea size hail raining down with
such force to create flakes floating about;
tingle the skin's senses with its iciness,
making being in the middle of it all of this...
... A, a, a real rout.

Author Notes
In the last line the "a" is to be pronounced as, "ah," not as a long, "a."
This is a tarp that I designed that I was sleeping under at the time. Photograph- Copyright 2008, Michael W. Kohlman.
Tech-no is a form of music with a hard driving beat that is repetitive and heavy with bass and drums. The melodies also repeat or are used as accents, consisting of synthesizers and guitar. Sort of a hard rock with a disco beat on steroids.
A Dervish is a Muslim, who in their practice of pray dances around in circles. Also used as a comment to point out a person who is working to such an extent that he is jumping around like a chicken with his head cut off.
People in South Dakota are amazed that the weather is like it is ending a twelve year drought. My last poem was inspired the night before and that experience was not to be out done. I wonder what is next... on second thought, never mind.
I have weather stories that can fill a book including having a hail storm run into us at ten thousand feet while we were on a mountain. We were well protected except that we were being hit with hail showers from the up cycle. This has been the most thrilling and intense. I am not adding flourishes, in fact, this is just an approximation of what this was really like. I almost decided to go back to the house to get my camera but that involves squeezing between a barbed wire fence. The last time I was six feet away it was hit with a lightning strike, so I decided to stay safe. After this was over I shook the hail off of my tarp side. For a four by eight foot area, it equaled two eight pounds bags of ice.
