A Sonnet

Double dealing

by kiwisteveh

A muscled ball of menace, hate and fear,
he swaggers sleazy streets as though he owns
them. Could it be he does, for now appear
his henchmen armed with snarls and mobile phones?

Transactions happen, money changes hands -
a bitter game of chance where user pays;
and there in brazen arrogance he stands,
the dealer, lord of all that he surveys.

As through a mirror's magic, now we see
the monster softened, home with wife and child.
He lends a hand with homework, makes the tea -
a night before the telly, meek and mild.

Across the city streets a new dawn breaks;
will it be Hyde or Jekyll who awakes?
