The Haircut

by kiwisteveh

When Wilson Cat adopted us,
her life was rather scary,
with Scooter Dog in residence,
both oversized and hairy.

As months went by there seemed to be
an easing of her loathing;
perhaps she spied his gentle soul
beneath that shaggy clothing.

As summer rolled around again,
'twas off to see the groomer,
whose clippers showed the dog beneath
that coat was more than rumour.

Now Wilson's back arched like a bow,
her eyes grew green and raging;
her puffed up fur and angry tail
Cried, "What's this trick you're staging?"

"That hirsute mutt I'll tolerate;
he's soft like macaroni.
But this new beast's beyond the pale -
he's far too bald and bony!"
