Give me a break

Stop fussing over me like a child
I can do things for myself
I'm old enough to know right from wrong
Give me a break!

I remember when I had my stroke
people talked all around me as if I was not there.
And when they did their voices were loud
People, I didn't lose my hearing, just lose my speech.
Give me a break!

Praise God I came a long ways yet,
still my children act like mothering hens.
They want to help me up the stairs
I try my best to be polite.

Then of course I lose control.
Saying "I'm disable I'm not cripple
I can make it up the stairs alone.

Or every five minutes they or someone asked
"Can they get me something?
Are you comfortable, do you need a pillow for your back?"
I want to yell "I'll be okay just let me relax."

I just don't understand have they forgotten
what they all prayed for.
Seeing me removed for ICU,
months of therapy which was rough
learning to regain all my muscle skills.
When it was over boy was I thrilled.

All praises to God The healer.
As believers We all know that,
all things are possible through Him.
Yet, they still Hubble over me like mother hens.

I know that they mean well but,
They seem to be still in that
poor helpless soul mode.
Where they see weakness, I have strength.
Give me a break!

Snap out of it!
I'll never be the way I was
yet, I rejoice for being reborn.
I love the new me.

As my Grandma use to say,
" My motor might be old and slow
By time you finish a soda pop
I'll be there."

After all these years with God's help to keep
that invisible muzzle on my mouth.
I must confess I do break loose and,
give them my two cents with love of course.

They treat me like a china doll
and any minute I will break.
Children, please hear me loud and clear.
GIVE YOU MAMA a break!
