Chapter 1
A Life In Midnight Blue

By Dawn Munro

A Life In Midnight Blue

Unbidden flow the memories and tears.
So many joys and sorrows; wasted years.
If asked to share one memory, I'd find
the day you went and left me far behind,

and memories are all I've saved of you -
a tourmaline, a sapphire; jewelled hue
when I saw love reflected in your eyes.
So full of kindness; usually so wise...

But foolish whims we follow without cause...
If ever given reason, we should pause
and thus ensure we know the risks we take,
for life can end with just one sad mistake,

and everything we lived for can be gone.
If haste makes waste, then impulses can spawn
a carelessness we'd otherwise reject.
The kind of things we never would expect

come crashing down to end a life and love!
And midnight blue forever lives thereof...

And midnight blue forever lives thereof!
Did peace descend, like God's own graceful dove?
What madness made you try to swim so far?
I hooked my dreams to your own special star

and now there's nothing left but pain and tears -
whatever shall I do with all my years?
There's no one to fulfill my hopes and prayers -
t'was you, whose heart was full of others' cares.

You had a helping hand for all in need,
but left me here to mourn, my heart to bleed,
and all because you foolishly gave in -
a stupid bet no one could ever win!

I pleaded with you not to take the chance,
but moonlight on blue water was romance.
What impulse made you suddenly take dares?
You were a man who never put on airs,

though sought to prove your masculinity -
that grin, assurance meant for only me...

That grin, assurance meant for only me...
but now the smile that only angels see...
I can't forgive your brother for his charm
when challenging brought you to fatal harm!

But even more, I'm furious with you!
You left me here to live in midnight blue,
when I would rather live inside your eyes -
when I would gladly be the one who dies!

Was your last thought of me as you succumbed?
My breath you stole, and every instinct numbed
as on ship's deck, we watched for your return...
my heart beat full of fear, and still I yearn...

I will forever, never giving up -
yes that's your legacy, a brimming cup
of sea and sorrow for a childish whim...
Oh, why decide to take that moonlit swim?

My plaintive pleas fell on your stubborn ears...
and I can never live with all these tears...

I take the plunge, the blue is silken sweet,
and oh, my love, in Heaven pray we meet!

Chapter 2
Reality

By Dawn Munro

Reality
by D Dawn Munro

Alone I walk these hallowed halls of memory
reminded of a time when wanted was my company.
Old and feeble now, I sit and watch the world pass by -
stiff-necked, determined they can't see me cry
because my dignity is all that I have left to me...
And solitude.

Embarrassment! Although just graciousness, briefly
I felt loved.

Relieve me of this burden that my life is now.
To die is all I wish for, but I don't know how.
In looking back, I see the many signs, and yet I rose and rose again -
until humiliated by the evidence of all the pain
I thought was hidden.

Revealed - my everlasting need
for love.

No longer blinded, now I bleed

Reality.

Chapter 3
Nice Witches

By Dawn Munro

The scent of fall is in the air --
the ripened apples, fallen leaves,
and attitudes -- devil-may-care
call forth the critters Mom believes

will gobble up her precious babes --
those pre-pubescent, little ones.
Don't worry, mothers, Mable saves
your kiddies for some hot-cross buns

'cuz they're delicious when they've aged --
a month or three will do the trick.
'Til Easter, brats behave when caged,
and Halloween makes witches sick.

In fact, we witches hate that night --
all children tend to run away.
At other times there is no fright
from anyone with hair of gray

and it's an easy, fun disguise --
cute dimples, wrinkles, big blue eyes...

Author Notes Stranger danger! Never judge a book by its cover, kiddies.

Chapter 4
Ceaseless, My Prayer

By Dawn Munro

Ceaseless, My Prayer
by Deborah Dawn Munro

I'm not as cool as I might seem -
this thing is like an awful dream
that keeps returning every night.
Will any of us be alright?

Though I might smile and reassure
my fellow man there'll be a cure,
the color of my hope has changed.
From loved ones we are now estranged

and honestly? I am afraid!
Will vaccinations be delayed
until there's little left of man?
I don't believe we really can

lift those restrictions put in place
(though heaven knows, to see your face
restored some strength - will to survive!
I'm thanking God you're all alive!)

Please pray for me - I'll pray for you
and with God's help, we'll make it through.
Let's ask for WISDOM to prevail.
(A hope that might be rather frail...)

We didn't get here overnight.
It's greed that caused this dreadful fright,
and finally we have the chance
to fix this horrid happenstance.

I look around me and I see
what humankind was meant to be.
No 'dollar bill' should man impede!
God granted everything we need,

and proof exists in families
who strive now just to love, and please
the front line stranger, working hard -
our streets became one big back yard

throughout the WORLD, with song and dance.
Dear brethren, let's not waste this chance...

Author Notes My heart is so broken over what is happening... in Long Term Care homes - all over! My local news reported tonight that even little children are dying, allegedly Covid-19-related.
