Contemporary Haiku
5/7/4 syllabic count (under 17 syllables) Kigo: frigid ground= winter Haiga (book cover) by Dean Kuch and Gypsy Blue Rose Dean and I will alternate writing our haiku. We are in the process of publishing our Book One-- 'Hora Haiku: Horror Haiku', and beginning to write horror haiku for our second book in Mirela and Claudiu's Saga written in contemporary haiku form. I searched online and contacted Bunka Shinko Ka, administrator of the International Kusamakura-Haiku, a Japanese haiku organization, and he confirmed there are many subspecies of haiku and horror haiku is one of them. Furthermore, he confirmed my findings, there are not too many horror haiku books in the market, much less a gothic horror haiku saga, which is great for us. Dean and I are very excited to bring you, fine FanStory authors, our gothic terror tales. Hold on! It's going to be a bumpy ride! We thank you for reviewing and sharing your valuable feedback with us. Book One was well received and we are hoping Book Two will do well, also. I enclosed links to a brief synopsis and previous chapters of our book, 'Hora Haiku: Horror Haiku a book of dark poetry' in the event that you would like to read them. Our horror haiku will make more sense if you do. There is no need to review our synopsis. I wrote it to enhance your reading and reviewing new horror haiku. Our hope for this collection of Gothic horror haiku is that you won't just find them to be a visual experience, but an overall sensory experience as well. Some will use sound, some will not. The story is evolving as we go. We have no fixed plot. I write each haiku as the muse moves me, then Gypsy, my co-author, does likewise. However, we do follow each other. I follow her latest haiku, then she follows mine. Thus our story unfolds. I've never seen nor read a book like ours. We are both extremely excited about our unique project. We are thrilled to be bringing here to you, all of the fine authors and poets on FanStory, for your critique and review. Both Gypsy and myself thank all of you for following our story. Our heroine is Mirela. She looks normal enough on the outside but on the inside, her soul and spirit are in constant turmoil.
In 1509, Elua, a divine dark angel mated with a powerful human witch named Naamah. They had a daughter named Mirela. Naamah tried to teach her daughter black magic but the girl didn't want to learn. She knew dark magic was wrong and her inner conflict was more than she could bare.
She escaped her home and hid in the woods. She was half starved and near death when Varcolac, a werewolf, found her. He brought her back to Bran Castle where his brother Claudiu, a vampire, nursed her back to health.
Mirela, Varcolac, and Claudiu became close friends. Their friendship evolved into a love triangle that culminated with a vicious battle between brothers to win Mirela's love.
Book Two -- Hora Haiku: a gothic tale of terror
Varcolac was violently banished from Bran Castle by his brother. Mirela and Claudiu began their eternal union (I was Mirela's wish to be a vampire and her lover obliged). The brother's fight and Varcolac's banishment caused friction between Mirela and Claudiu.
They were delighted to be together and free to express their mutual passion but their union was founded on grief and hate and eventually it destroyed Mirela and Caudiu's eternal union.
Mirela could not live with her remorse, her best friend Varcolac's banishment, her lover Claudiu's breakup, and her evil legacy. She attempted to commit suicide by drowning in Bran's Lake.
Since Mirela was turned into a vampire by her lover, Claudiu's, she is not able to commit suicide so she must endure her guilty mind and angst for causing her best friend, Varcolac, grief, and suffering.
Mirela's mother, Namaah, comes to Bran's land looking for her. She finds Varcolac near Bran Castle, where she manipulates Varcolac trying to convince him he must kill his brother, Claudiu.
Namaah puts a spell on Varcolac increasing his size. He finds Mirela in the woods and takes her by force. They fight and she passes out.

Dicrea and Nefartatul were opposite forces, light and darkness, good and evil, Ying and Yang. The battle between them existed since the beginning of time. Dicrea ruled the heavens while Nefartatul ruled the earth and procreated with mortal women who birthed a race of fallen angels.
In 1509, one powerful dark angel named Elua, a direct descendent of Nefartatul, mated with a powerful human witch named Naamah. They lived in Transylvania, Romania, where they had one daughter they named Mirela.
Her wicked mother tried to influence her. She taught her the ways of dark magic. The wicked witch sensed goodness in her daughter's heart and feared she would waste her power.
The spiritual struggle within Mirela' soul was more than she could handle and one day she ran away from home.
She was half starved and near death in the woods when Varcolac found her. He brought her back to Bran Castle where his brother Claudiu nursed her back to health. For months the brothers and Mirela enjoyed each other's company and grew closer than any of them had ever imagined was possible. They became good friends.
Their strange childhood made them closer. They understood what it was like to be different and unwanted. Their lives were intertwined and they were clearly kindred spirits.
Vlad III the Impaler, also known as Count Dracula, adopted a human boy and on his 18th birthday, turned him into a vampire.
Count Dracula's human servants were Alexandru Lukoi and his wife Crina Lili. She was a beautiful woman and was secretly seduced by the Count. Unbeknown to Alexandru, Crina Lily was carrying the Count's bastard child.
Human women and vampires were not meant to mate. It was an abomination and extremely dangerous for the mother. Crina Lili died giving birth to a healthy baby boy she named Varcolac. The boy had special powers. He was a wild child and played in the deep forest. At the age of ten, he was bitten by a werewolf.
Claudiu and Varcolac grew up as brothers and were inseparable. They were highly intelligent and powerful like their father but kind and loving like Alexandru who raised them in Count Dracula's Castle.
One morning when Mirela awoke, Claudiu was there and she felt an overwhelming attraction towards him. He sat on the bed and held her hand. Their eyes met, they felt a small jolt and quickly pulled their hands back. It was awkward so they pretended it didn't happen.
Claudiu knew about his brother's feelings for Mirela and didn't look forward to a love triangle.
In spite of their competition to win Mirela's heart, the brothers were very close and Claudiu protected Varcolac from the town folk who hunted and killed werewolves viciously if they had a chance.
Mirela loved both brothers but she was deeply in love with Claudiu and begged him to turn her into a vampire so they could be together forever. Reluctantly Claudiu agreed.
During one of her feeding expeditions, Mirela was caught by Muma Padurii, a witch who put a Hypnotic spell on her and buried her in the cemetery.
Mirela dug her way out of the ground but had no recollection of who she was, due to the spell.
Meanwhile, Claudiu and Varcolac searched for Mirela high and low until Varcolac found her in the witch's caves, he rescued her but she ran away before he could stop her.
After Mirela ran into Claudiu's arms in Bran Castle, she fell into a deep sleep and in her dreams she began to remember who she was.
Outside Mirela's sleeping chamber, Valcolac's piercing eyes stared at her balcony and wonder who she was dreaming about.
Claudiu and Valcolac fought over Mirela and Claudiu won the battle. Varcolac was banished from Bran Castle.
No longer needing to restrain themselves to avoid Valcolac's furious jealousy, Mirela and Claudiu unleashed their deepest wild passion.

Mirela is a vampire but her heart beats. The common belief that vampires have no heartbeat is a myth. How else could the blood circulate through their bodies. Granted, most vampires have a much slower pulse than normal humans (on the order of 20-25 beats per minute), but their hearts do beat.
**Naamah is Mirela's mother; a dark witch who tried to teach Mirela the art of black magic. However, Mirela didn't want to learn. She knew dark magic was wrong and the inner conflict was more than she could handle. She escaped her home and hid in the woods. Now, Naamah has returned to bring her into the fold of the Dark Coven of Witches. She put a spell on Mirela's friend, the werewolf Varcolac, causing him to grow to an enormous size, to capture her and bring her back to her mother. Mirela is in love with a vampire named Claudiu, he loves her too and bit her to turn her into a vampire. They live together. Varcolac is Claudio's brother. Varcolac is in love with Mirela and the love triangle created bad blood between them no pun intended. hee-hee** Dean Kuch and I have decided to write a Gothic horror story using only horror haiku poetry. Our hope for this collection of Gothic horror haiku is that you won't just find them to be a visual experience, but an overall sensory experience as well. Some will use sound, some will not. The story is evolving as we go. We have no fixed plot. I write each haiku as the muse moves me, then Dean Kuch, my co-author, does likewise. However, we do follow each other. I follow her latest haiku, then she follows mine. Thus, our story unfolds. The book is for sale on Amazon or you can read it in our portfolios. See the link below. I've never seen nor read a book like ours. We are both extremely excited about our unique project. We are thrilled to be bringing here to you, all the fine authors and poets on FanStory, for your critique and review. Both Dean and myself thank all of you for following our story. We can't wait to see where Claudiu and Mirela will take us next. Our sincerest hope is that you will decide to come along with us. After all, it gets lonely here in the dark, heh-heh. click here to read book two Hora Haiku: A Gothic Tale of Terror click here to read book synopsis click here to read book one Hora Haiku: Horror Haiku |
