"A Perfection's Worth "

Chapter 1
Golden innocence

By GregoryCody

While sparrows fly like cotton lights
and chase their tails to endless heights~
we breathe beneath a flapping wing,
and fall into the hope they bring,
then reach unseen and skyless heights.

We dance to destiny's delights,
while shadows drip gray rain in flights~
and lay the drops atop our King.
While sparrows fly.

We twirl like ribbons inside nights;
now wrinkled fingers; aimless kites,
we race on wind - our spirits sing.
Her golden soul...one silver ring,
His apple fresh...two loving bites.
While sparrows fly.

Author Notes

This rondeau for the contest has a very interesting format;
Three verses, 8 syllables in each line, following this pattern:
AABBA
AAB refrain (first three words of first line)
AABBA refrain (first three words of first line)

This decision to enter the contest was inspired by Visionary1234, one of the most talented people I have ever known. This is where I first heard about rondeau and where I received its formatting rules. Thank you!

And thank you to Yeltel for astonishingly helpful directions and guidance
Thanks to google images for the artwork

(Why does it sound like I'm giving an acceptance speech)

Chapter 2
Under the Sugar Waves

By GregoryCody

Twilight peeked through wooden fingertips
like shimmering swords of the yellow night;
speaking into my dreams as if to wake me from my tearful slumber
until finally...I saw her

She was holding me ~ needs matched
as I squeezed her closer within my arms
while we let the stars' prying eyes shine brightly
onto our freshly wet painting

A lifetime to draw magic from ~
sparkling crystal flames
Her eyes found mine in the night

Her smile could dwarf my importance ~
bristle atop dusty yellow coats of bumblebee backs
silent climbing suns across rising red skies
I stood as a moment before an eternity

A symphony of our whispering destiny
twirling in spirals of intertwining smiles
danced above us like a bright fire's white smoke;
It writes its poetry within the wind.

Her lips dripped into my breath ~
deeply dipping splashes of thirsty wants
An endless glowing ocean of golden sweet spring nectar ~
as we swam together under the sugar waves

Every sting of every slap
every shiver of every caress
every missing morning of every witnessed moon
had a piece of every everything that I knew

There are hardly words for an experience never meant for explanation

My devotion to her grows stronger the moment the sentence stops
I will tell her each day my appreciation ~ from the beginning
Our love will have not a break, nor a pause
It will simply be a story...forever to be unending...

Author Notes It wasn't difficult to write without the use of certain words because honestly she holds every word I have to speak.

Chapter 3
Charcoal Forest

By GregoryCody

Soot from a heart long burning; burnt out
Mixes with mud from thundering storm clouds
Into the cracked crystal's splinters, drips infectious liquids
Sliding through grooves, chiseled by miserable sickness

Etched from countless complaints, anger galore, the vacant embrace
I'm matched only by being here more, so I patiently wait
As if blocking the sun thin with deliberate hands
My cheeks remain dry skin - swimming in dark sand

A prisoner of drifting silk bars, with scissors of reason
She stays shackled to nothing, remains without freedom

I step into its essence, with conviction-less sparkle,
My presence, my sickness; a prism of charcoal

Creeping inside the missing shimmering light
My face plays behind lies, greed, distance...delight

A rainbow with layers of the same color of nowhere
Droops over cobwebs, paired chairs of rocking despair
We stumble as lovers within forests stripped bare

And as we dance underneath
We bleed through our teeth
My chin glistens with comfort, hers...disbelief

Devoid of glowing, of glee - no apologies - emptiness inside exists only in me.

Author Notes Guiltless guilt for hurting the ones loved most...someone out there might understand the meaning behind it...

Perhaps it is about a man with a disease that sometimes drags the love of his life down with him. But she stays. Sacrifices her own happiness, out of true love for him...

Chapter 5
Shackled in Shadows...

By GregoryCody

Detached...
In shadows lost
Uncuffed legs, thick with mud
She held the key ~ she washed my feet
I'm home.

Author Notes Adelaide Crapsey invented this form. It now requires a certain amount of syllables per line with the option of using iambic feet (typical though) with unstressed followed by stressed...

Line one has two syllables.
Line two has four syllables.
Line three has six syllables.
Line four has eight syllables.
Line five has two syllables.

Chapter 6
Purpose in the Beat

By GregoryCody

The death of dreams is sleeping life
Awake to feel the last exhale
Agape to taste the bleeding knife
A rotted passion sickened pale

I travel blindly, grasping twine
Unraveled fibers snap in two
My wailing sinks a gasping whine
In depths above while passing you

But echoes bounce me back with aim
A flash of reason lifts my fall
Like bursting cannons shouting flame
A plea to never crave at all

In seeking heights unknown to climb
The soul is set unbound and flies
It happens here in written rhyme ~
A heartbeat needing purpose dies

Author Notes ~ Not knowing, not constantly thinking, not needing to understand everything is the most freeing way to live your life and the simplest purpose one can have behind it ~
