The winter's raging wind turns dreams to dust.
The leaves are gone and trees stand sad and bare -
And nature's steel is showing signs of rust
as cold comes creeping, sneaking from its lair.
The spring has left, and it will be a while
before we feel its fragrant breath again.
Oh, how I'd love to see its verdant smile --
but nature's rage declares it all in vain.
Oh winds, oh thunder, to my life you're bane!
Your icy hand is clutching at my heart -
You bring disaster, famine, rage and pain
to peaceful pier from where my dreams depart.
The raging wind of time impacts my soul,
its spite is our illusions' deadly toll.

Spenserian Sonnet is a variation of the Shakespearean Sonnet. A Spenserian Sonnet has three quatrains and a couplet but there is a twist where you employ linking rhymes between the quatrains (ABAB....BCBC....CDCD....EE), and must contain the iambic pentameter.
The topic of this contest is Unrequited Love. The picture used is by the well known artist Michael Cheval "Unrequitted Letters." A huge thanks to Karenina for her help writing this poem. |

I looked outside, and there you were, my Moon ~
Your silver magic took my breath away.
So beautiful, in evening sky's lagoon,
A star by night, you greet the dawning day.
Your luminescence glides upon a lake,
You bless the lovers, guide the ships at sea -
Romantic fancies flourish in your wake,
Sweet ebb and flow of passion's lunacy.
What would I do without your sacred light?
My heart aglow, I bask in your romance ~
I'm born anew from your fluorescent sight
The Moon and I - we linger in our dance.
My golden orb, I love your lunar smile;
Immortal is your incandescent style.
