Prologue
Poetry for all Ages Prologue

By fionageorge

I had a funny little notion
Perhaps I need a magic potion
To give me the courage to write
Some poems on the FanStory site

I joined the site to write a book
Hopefully meet some friends who took
Pity on a soul with a dream
To see her writing on the screen

Then when I joined I was surprised
That poetry wasn't what I'd surmised
I knew nothing about this art
I thought I would try it from the start

Receiving positive feedback straight away
On my first poem that very first day
Learning about metres, rhythm and rhyme
Getting lots of good advice many a time

From that day on I was smitten
Various poems I've since written
About topics many and varied
Some of these should have been buried

I've decided to put some onto pages
Creating a book for kids of all ages
So all you wonderful reviewers and friends
This is where this prologue ends

Author Notes This book is dedicated to all those who are kids at heart.

Chapter 1
The Killer Cat

By fionageorge

Nanny, did you hear 'bout my cat?

He is getting really fat.

He keeps eating things he shouldn't.

I tried to stop him, but I couldn't.

He eats the tails off from the lizards.

He eats the birds, but not their gizzards.

He even ate a big fat rat.

Now we call him the killer cat.

Nanny, would it be really true,

that killer cat could eat me or you?

My daddy said that he just might,

and that gave me such a fright.

Nanny, if my killer cat ate us,

he might get bigger than a bus.

Then he'd get so fat that he

could explode, and we'd be free.

We might end up hanging from the light.

I think we'd be a yukky sight,

with blood all over us from my cat.

Nanny, I don't think I would like that!

When I get home, I'll tell my cat

He mustn't eat us, or he'll get fat

and 'nstead of being a killer cat

He'll be dead, and then that's that!

Nanny, we must tell peoples who have a cat,

to make sure they feed them good food, so that

their cat will never get hungry and then,

all peoples can feel safe again.

Author Notes Taleisha, our four-year-old granddaughter, with her serious little face, told me this story about her cat over lunch today.

Chapter 2
Moon Fairy

By fionageorge

The moon with its mystical allure
Conjures up legends and romance
Each night when I look at the sky
I see the moonlight fairy dance

With fragile diaphanous white wings
She's an ethereal, heavenly sight
Falling stars adorn her gown
Reflecting softly the moon's light

She fills my soul with wondrous awe
As she twirls with sweet delight
Flitting, prancing, on moon's surface
As her feet and wings take flight

Next time you look at the night sky
Use your imagination, you may see
My fairy dancing on moon's beams
Daring your heart to set you free

Author Notes Just a whimsical bit of nonsense.

Diaphanous - Almost transparent, see-through, sheer,

Ethereal - Ghostly, otherworldly, unearthly, wraithlike

Chapter 3
Cuppa Tea Please

By fionageorge

"What's you doin', Nan?"

'I'm making myself some tea."

"Can I have some too please?"

"You'd better ask Mummy."

Five-year-old goes running

Comes back pretty quick

Her eyes shining brightly

She doesn't miss a trick

"Nan, I did ask'd Mummy.

And she told me 'Yup'"

"How would you like that, sweety?"

"I'd like it in a cup!"

Author Notes Our five-year-old grand-daughter, Talara, comes out with some funny things at times. That is her in the photo.

Chapter 4
Christmas Blessings

By fionageorge

Christmas Day is drawing nigh
Children’s expectations high
Santa sure to bring them gifts
Imaginations set adrift

Mum and Dad are feeling sad
Economy's got so bad
Savings have been used to pay
Things required every day

Bank’s decided to foreclose
Christmas shouldn’t be morose
T’is a time for love and sharing
For enjoyment and for caring

All dressed up in Sunday best
Walk to church, to get blessed
And seek guidance from above
Knowing He will send His love

Midnight Mass comes to an end
Walk from church, try to pretend
Everything will be okay
Wish all a Happy Christmas Day

From the church good friends appear
Carrying baskets of good cheer
Food and drinks; turkey and ham
Special gifts for each of them

Mum and Dad begin to cry
There is not an eye that’s dry
Hugs and kisses all around
Christmas well wishes abound

Author Notes There is always hope, keep the faith. Many are doing it tough. Many people are generous. Things will get better.

Blowing Bubbles

By fionageorge

Author Note:Thank you luvsGod for the stunning picture.

       B

B eautiful colours, light and bright

E very bubble delicate and fine
S oapy water makes them shine

Author Notes Not just for little children, but for everyone young at heart.

Chapter 6
High up on the Hill

By fionageorge

Perched here high upon the hill
Darkness descends, surroundings still
Shades of sunset shimmering gold
As breathless glories of night unfold

I sit outside in my swinging chair
Look across the city, breathe in fresh air
I stare in wonder, can’t feel the cold
Watching nature's miracle unfold

The sun has gently slipped down low
Behind the mountains capped with snow
A dull grey sky of not long ago
Turns on a bright and spectacular show

Its beauty awesome to behold
As around me all turns orange and gold
For a few minutes, my life stands still
Perched here high upon the hill

Author Notes One of the many beautiful views from my varandah and lounge-room. I took this photo a few months ago.

Chapter 7
Hands

By fionageorge

Author Note:Dedicated to all mothers, may you enjoy that moment of touching your newborn.

HANDS

Giving
Protecting
Baby’s life support
Stroking and caressing
Providing warmth and comfort
“A mother’s touch, a gift from God”

Author Notes Memories of motherhood, the feeling of a new baby's flesh, soft and warm. Nothing else compares.

Chapter 8
Brothers and Sisters

By fionageorge

They laugh, they love, they share.
When needed, they are there.
Sisters and brothers,
Like diamonds are forever.

Author Notes I am so lucky, the best family in the world, sharing all of life's ups and downs.

Chapter 9
Sun Set

By fionageorge

S
etting sun slowly slipping
Unveiling unrivalled umbrella
Nurturing nocturnal nesting
Serenely shimmering scenery
Each exodus exquisitely exotic
Today transpired then triumphed

Author Notes Thank you SweetLinda for providing us with this challenging contest.

Chapter 10
Doctor, Doctor, help me please!

By fionageorge

Doctor, doctor, please come quick
There is something you have to fix
My tummy, look, it's really pesky
Having blown up so grotesquely

You'll probably think it quite bizarre
I drank some potion from a jar
Then hubby inserted a bit of soap
Said 'this'll move it all - I hope'

Doctor, I keep looking at the clock
Time has passed, but not the block
Oh doctor, doctor, please come see
Come do whatever you can for me

Quick, I can't take it any more
I think I'm dying, of that I'm sure
Can you please give me a potion
To set my insides back in motion

What did you say, what can you do
That'll help me pass my stubborn poo
I need to take a pill or two
Then I'll be able to go to the loo

Oh thank you doctor, it's such a relief
For a while I really did believe
That I would die from constipation
Much to my hubby's consternation

Doctor, I'm writing this card today
Because my thanks I wish to convey
I really think you saved my life
And gave my hubby back his wife

I'm grateful for this second chance
I've made a vow, that if per chance
I eat another pineapple so sweet
I'll cut it into pieces before I eat

Author Notes Thank you to channelled for the artwork. I appologise for using it out of context.

Sorry if you were eating whilst you were reading this!

Hubby = husband (Australian slang)
Loo - toilet (Australian slang)

Chapter 11
Spring Blossoms

By fionageorge

soft breeze blows gently
swaying pink and white blossoms
God’s garden in spring

Author Notes It is spring in Australia, the blossoms in full bloom.

Thank you Diane Hall for the use of your beautiful artwork.

Chapter 12
Hear Ye, Hear Ye

By fionageorge

Author Note:Thank you diana_mascarenhas for your wonderful artwork - The Saddest Fool. It is brilliant.

Hear ye, hear ye, you silly fools
Come and listen, lay down your tools
I have something you really must buy
Come on, roll up, now don’t be shy

I’ll show you what you really need
Today’s must have, help with your greed
Have something better than your friends
Show off the very latest trends

My product's simply the very best
It’s much better than all the rest
Before you can have it, you’ll have to pay
Increase your debts this very day

Once you’ve bought it, there is no doubt
You’ll never be able to live without
It’s truly excellent, it’s really flash
You fools, you’ll soon part with your cash

What is this product that I sell?
Just pay your money, then I'll tell
A credit card will do just fine
Now your money will be all mine

Hear ye, hear ye, you silly fools
Come and listen, lay down your tools
I'm here to tell you something funny
Now you've parted with your money

This pipedream you thought would be nice
Is nothing but a fool’s paradise

Author Notes So many people part with their money in the hope of getting something unrealistic. There are a lot of predators in the world and on the net who rip people off, without any conscience. They treat the strugglers as fools, taking their money without any guilt.

Chapter 13
What is Love?

By fionageorge

Love is true
Love is sincere
Love is gentle
Love is kind

Love is honest
Love is faithful
Love is generous
Love is not blind

Love is beautiful
Love is confident
Love is acceptance
Love is caring

Love is freedom
Love is patience
Love is tolerance
Love is sharing

Love is you
Love is me
Love is us
Eternally

Author Notes Love is different things to different people.

Chapter 14
Wrap them up and bottle them

By fionageorge

Wrap them up and bottle them
That's what I'd like to do
Our beautiful little children
Their innocence so true

Eyes sparkling one moment
The next they are in tears
Our hugs bring out the greatest love
And wipes away their fears

We share each precious moment
Gaining pleasure from their joys
With their imagination
There is no need for toys

We teach them about arts and crafts
Bake cookies, so much fun
Make Christmas cards and little gifts
Wrap them up for everyone

Their animated faces shine
Little hands they wave around
Telling their tales of wondrous things
Their beautiful voices abound

Stories about fairies and goblins
Blowing bubbles and a killer cat
They are truly inspirational
To their imagination I tip my hat

They take me into their innocent world
With their love so pure and true
Wrap them up and bottle them
That's what I'd like to do

Author Notes The joy of sharing time with our children and grandchildren. Sharing quality time, no computers, no electronic games. Teaching them to make their own fun.
