Tales of the Undead (Zombies!!!)
The topic for this contest is: ZOMBIES!!!
Okay, let's get the premise out of the way. There's been an outbreak. The dead have risen overnight and no one knows why (or whoever's in the know, isn't telling and there's no time to worry about it right now). Write an isolated story, starting the same evening, or the following morning, showing how your character/characters are affected by the outbreak. They can be at home, at the office, on a camping trip, at the city park, etc., but tell an isolated story. I'm not looking for global-scale apocalyptic narratives requiring an explanation as to the "why", but terrifying tales of people trying to survive, thrown into the middle of undead madness.
By all means, be creative, but I'm looking for SCARY tales, so keep the humor at a minimum. Again, the category is HORROR/THRILLER, NOT HUMOR. Contest voters will be asked to consider the topic when making a choice for a winner.
Minimum length 1,000 words. Maximum Length 3,000 words.
I will be monitoring the entries for contest compliance. I will also be available to answer any additional questions or any needed clarification in the contest threads.
I'm setting the deadline date for October 1st to allow writers ample time to consider the topic, and possibly come up with an original take on a well-used theme. This will also allow me time to monitor the entries and answer questions. Not to mention, it's just the right time of year for it. I'm looking forward to reading all your horrific undead tales.
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool of 90.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 5 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
