Blank Verse II

Poetry Contest
Blank verse is verse written in iambic pentameter (da DUM da DUM da DUM da DUM da DUM) without rhyme. Shakespeare often used it. For this contest, no end rhymes, either true or proximate, are allowed. No internal or true rhymes are allowed in the same line (they may be in consecutive lines.)

True rhymes--ones in which the ending vowel and consonantal sounds are the same. (e.g.fate/late )

Proximate rhymes--ones in which the ending vowel sound is the same, but the ending consonantal sounds differ.
(e.g. time/nine)

End rhymes--rhyming words at the end of a line.

Example of blank verse:

Softball

For you, a ton of coin, I would bestow
To spend the eve upon a grassy mound
To look upon that hairy chest and legs--
So masculine you are to all who see.

My adoration you but catch a glimpse;
Your beautiful brown eyes entice me so.
Your strong, imposing body playing ball.
You catch the ball with such an easy eye.

The pain you take is rough when you play hard
But I want us to be on that same mound
At night beneath a pure and crescent moon--
Each other's bodies we with love embrace.

Your entry should be a minimum of eight lines. There is no maximum number of lines.
