Who is Your Favorite Author and Why
This contest is open to poets, short story writers, novelists, and film/screen writers. I believe writers are also readers. Select YOUR favorite writer (NOT a writer on FS!) and let us know why (in 500 words or less). You MUST include an exerpt from your favorite author to prove your point.
My hope is that you will turn lots of us onto great reading (NOT FS) (as well as great writing (YOURS). Here is just a brief example of what I am hoping for in this contest (I will be elaborating on the below in my own contest entry) - and haven't yet chosen which form it will take:
My favorite author is Pat Conroy. A reader falls in love with his characters. His imagery is exemplary. Most of all, I find him to be extraordinarily "poetic" - he is a novelist, AND a poet. I randomly picked one page from one of my favorite books "Beach Music." Here is an example of how he writes: "We walked along a brick path to the front door of the house. The interior design looked hasty; everything appeared bought, nothing collected, each room being more antiseptic than the last. Several English hunting prints hung on the sitting room walls: pale, attenuated Englishmen riding to the hounds on the South Carolina sheetrock. In the South, those emblematic hunting prints populate the walnut-paneled walls of meretricious and second-rate law firms."

The contest winner will win half of the prize pool which is based on the number of entries. The second and third place winners will each share the remaining prize pool. The prize pool is currently 50.00 member dollars. There are 8 spots still open. If all open spots are used the prize pool will be 90.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 5 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
