NOV Horror: Scary Online Review

Well, Halloween is over (unless you are a horror writer, than it is very day!), but that does not mean that the contests are over. The Horror Writer's Club is hosting a contest the last day of every month leading up to Halloween. Please join one or all of the contests!

This week's November horror contest is:

HORROR ONLINE REVIEW: Write a scary product review like you were a buyer of a product for an online retailer! (EXAMPLE BELOW)

November in the US is famous for two things: Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Especially Black Friday which has EXPLODED in recent years, even taking away from Thanksgiving (boo). When shopping online, we have all seen product reviews on major retailers online like Amazon, Walmart, Barnes and Noble that are written by other buyers. Most of us look at these reviews before we buy a product and get them mailed to us. Some reviews are helpful, some are funny, some are outright useless. Why don't we make some--horrifying for November and Black Friday?

The prompt is: Write an online review that is SCARY and HORRIFYING. No word limit! Make it scary and make it done. Needs to be horror related and intended to be frightening. Dark horror allowed. Must be in the general format of an online product review (cannot be a fiction story; must be a mock product review).

***** by user MikeMyers - "Great Knife with Non-Slip Handle, No Break Tip--What More Could a Murderer Ask for?"

(Verified Purchase)

I give this knife all five stars ***** for such great craftsmanship. The non-slip grip allows me to keep swingin' as long as they are still movin', and the strong construction allows me to swing and miss into walls, doors, and other wooden objects without breaking the tip. They are even water and rust resistant, staying sharp after years under Crystal Lake. Bought extras for the kids for Christmas gifts.

Response from Seller: Thank you for purchasing the Blam-O! 8-inch chef's knife. We appreciate your business and hope you mean fish or other products moving while your "swingin'"

Buyer Update: Nope, not fish. Don't you want the Halloween movies?

For those that need this:

- This is fiction, but could be flash fiction is to the--point.
- All stories must conform to the prompt, i.e., be for a product review.
- This is not a nonfiction piece.
- There is a format/template here with a prompt, so no poems or scripts.
- The overarching goal is to HAVE FUN WRITING and entertain us all

Each month the Horror Writer's group will host a horror writing contest, leading up to October where we will have numerous contests and our Halloween Haunt! If you enjoy horror, whether to write or to read, PLEASE join our Horror Writer's club--it is new, and could use some love!

Happy Hauntings Everyone!
