Clichés!

Poetry Contest
Write a poem, rhymed or unrhymed, that is loaded
with clichés. Minimum 3 stanzas.

I ran this contest back in 2009, and I remember it was fun!

My friend Susanne M. Psyris has given permission to use her poem "I AM a Rose" as an example.

I AM a Rose

In this life so filled with roses,
I'm the weed you cast aside.
In a world so full of secrets,
I'm the skeleton you hide.
I'm the "rain" before the "bow."
In the cool night summer air;
In a world so bent on "here" and "now."
I'm always "then" and "there."
I'm the "what-cha" before "ma-call-it."
I'm the reason without a rhyme;
I'm that proverbial "bad-penny,"
That cliche "not worth a dime."
I'm the pros when cons are what you want,
The cons when you need pros.
But, in a world so filled with weeds,
I believe I AM a rose.
