Write a story that starts with the sentence: My parents were friendly people, but when it came to fights, no one seemed to win. Your story must start with the sentence above. Do not add to the sentence. You have the option to put it in quotes (for dialogue) and to change the punctuation at the end. But do not add to the sentence or change it in any other way. The story can be about anything but start with the sentence above. Creative approaches are welcomed but the contest voters will be aware of the challenge made here to begin your story with the sentence provided.
Minimum length 700 words. Maximum Length 7,000 words. Recommended length 2,000 - 3,500 words.
This is a Winless contest. Only authors that have never won first place may enter.
This is a writing challenge. A small contest with a limited number of spots. The contest winner will win half of the prize pool of 12.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
