Serious Poets - Rhyme required
Poetry Contest
Traditional poetry (poems that rhyme)
If you are tired of vanilla rhyme schemes and want to explore or stretch your poetic skills a bit, this contest is for you. Write a poem on any topic using the meter and rhyme scheme of Robert Frost's 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.' (AABA BBCB CCDC DDDD) The poem must be four Quatrains - and written in iambic tetrameter (4 iambs per line.)
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sounds the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
The contest winner will win half of the prize pool of 50.00 member dollars. In this contest at least 2 submissions must be made for the vote to begin.
Deadline: Contest is closed. Deadline was Saturday, September 13, 2014.
