Lost Verses

by Lordinajamjar

Inquisitive sea birds swarmed the sand

All pecking at the overturned boat

Once angry waves retreated

Leaving the tormented craft in peace

Two oars lay on Petit Bot beach

Stained with the toil of bloodied hands

The battered boat had been rowed many miles

Yet the oarsman was nowhere in sight

Curious holidaymakers gathered

Taking selfies while seated on the boat

A local lad noticed the hat on the tide

Then the body rolling in the sea foam

They waded quickly into the sea

Dragging a man's rock battered body

Onto the people swelled shore

In his hand they found a pencil

In his pocket they found paper

Scrawled upon it was a girl's name

Followed by a few poetic verses

Not one could recite the poem they said

When the constable arrived

The soggy paper disintegrated

Then a sudden blast of cold air

Carried the faded verse back into a calm sea
