I'm hoping the waves have lulled those war demons to sleep. Excellent write.

The shadows have laid claim to most of the yard.. It looks (one period is enough)

Willis wipes his forearm across his eyes. "You miss her don't you?" (comma after 'her')

I'm guessing the waves helped. They always help me. Thank you for this nice review. Gretchen

Oh, Grechen, I saved you a six, and must have given it away without realising. This was such a lovely, sad, emotional, gentle chapter. Nonni did the right thing telling Heddy to go and be with Willis. Many men came home from the war broken men, no one but those men know what it was like, and most never tell, and some never recover.
I thought it was so sweet when Heddy got upset and told her mother about that kiss! Heaven forbid! LOL!! Another lovely chapter, my talented friend. Sandra xxxx

Thank you, Sandra. A detailed review is just as good as a six in my book. Lol. I do appreciate your feedback. Gretchen

I enjoyed the story. No one comes back from war the same as went they went it. It us good that Willis was willing to go to the beach with his sister. I wonder if she has never mentioned to her parents that she sees Nonni. I guess Nonni told her not to tell anyone.

She did tell her mother in the first chapter. But her mother told her she was dreaming. Thank you for this. Gretchen

"What makes a good decision." Because this is a question it should be punctuated with a ? not a period.

"personality with out" should be personality without.

The handshake shows good sportsmanship on Lester's part. A lesson Heddy could learn. It is also a teaching moment for her.

Heddy should not have lied about kissing Lester.

When some soldiers return from war they sometimes act out in anger like Willis did. This may be a very scary situation for those around them.

"for rest of the night" should be for the rest of the night.

This work has reached the exceptional level

You have such insight. Firstly into Heddy's confusion about the kiss, and the issues it raises about approaching adulthood, but secondly about Willis and his trauma, and how it will inevitably change his outlook and his relationships. A very moving chapter, very authentic and real - and very well written.
Wendy

This is a frightening time for Heddy. She loves her bother, but he is damaged by what he has seen in the war. She offers him comfort by leading him away from the house and out into the open quiet world of the surf. Very well done.

What a lovely post, probably he trusts his sister, she knows what emotion is, and even in her tender years she knows the influence that water brings, it is the symbol of life. Beautifully written Gretchen, a good episode, there were lots of people that were damaged by war. Beautifully written, blessings Roy

Your cute little line about not wanting to say no to kissing made me giggle like a school kid. Even at such an early age we know it isn't a good idea, but like an Ann Lander's reply to a concerned mother: She said, once they start, don't think they'll give it up. :-) Thanks for sharing.

Superb! A chapter of contrasts dovetailing together: firstly, Heddy's preoccupation with her kiss with Lester and then the much more weighty and overbearing evidence of PTSD suffered by Willis. Heddy's introspection with Nonni to guide her is fundamental in understanding what Willis needs at this moment, to breathe in the sea air and escape from the confines of the house and his wartime experience.
Maybe 4th line from the bottom: for (the) rest of the night.
Well done, Gretchen! Debbie

I knew Noni was going to make an entrance. Willis is fighting his demons, and Heddy bravely takes him under her wing. I loved this chapter because it shows so much love and compassion among Willis's demons of war. It's what family is all about. I love this saga, Gretchen!
