Very entertaining, a great flow and you taught me something about Hawaiian folklore. I love learning, you topped your poem with a wonderful picture. Your entire presentation was awesome.

I have always enjoyed these creation style myths and this is a new one to me. I thought you had been clever to place it in the form of a poem and yet keep the tale clear. Well written.

I am familiar with the Maui tale. I knew of it before the Disney movie Moana. Loved it. Your poetry story is well-done. I always enjoy myths and legends.

Hi Santha, thanks for sharing as you covered many things I never heard before. I know the goddess of the moon is Hina. I didn't know the sun god's name. You got me searching about Hawaiian mythology and the Wikipedia article seems to match the Creation story of Genesis with God creating man in His image and three were involved which is like the Trinity. So interesting!

Anyway, the trickster Maui (also mentioned in Maori mythology of New Zealand) didn't gain much in Hawaii because there really isn't much of difference between summer and winter being so close to the equator. Lol. What I was told in 4th grade is that Maui fished out the islands and that's how the island chain came to be.

Determined was he to see the earthlings troubles lessened, (earthlings')

Exactly what I have been thinking .What big difference is there between summer and winter in Hawaii. may be it is applicable more to New Zealand .Anyway there are are stories and stories galore in Hawaiian myths
I was gifted with a anthology of 50 top stories from around the world .One story by Walt whitman is so touching that I want to abridge it
and post it here .Is it allowed? with acknowledgement.?
Iam off to Singapore day after tomorrow.to spend ten days with grandchildren .

Oh yes! If you retell it, it is your writing and you can always give credit to the original book in your notes!

Nice reading flow and abab rhyme scheme.
Good personification of the heavenly bodies and mythical spirits.
Very nice narration of a culture's mythical tale
"the sixteen legs of La's" No apostrophe needed here--simply La.
Thanks for educating me on this very nice, imaginative folk tale and lore.

This is very interesting to read, and I had not heard of the mess about how Maui got its name. You have done a very good job with explaining it and I enjoyed your story very much. Patricia .

The tale you share here of Maui is an enjoyable read. Through your imagery you seem to breathe new life into this story. I enjoyed reading about Maui's quest to challenge the Sun God La for the betterment of humanity. Nicely done!

I found your "clumsy" attempt very good. I enjoyed how you wove the traditional Hawaiian words into the poem. The legend or folklore was very interesting. I loved the delightful imagery that your gave. I don't think it was clumsy, I think it was great. Gretchen
