Backyard Enjoyment

One does not have to live in rural locations

To appreciate God given natural creations

Many of us live in the cities and suburbs

Our love of all of nature is not perturbed

When the morning sun comes peeking

I know it is time to finish my sleeping

Walk to my backyard and scatter bird seed

Fill the bird bath with fresh water they need

Love to watch birds and animals gather

Each engaging their own breakfast matter

Sparrows, robins, cardinals make it a regular habit

Also squirrels, chipmunks, and an occasional rabbit

I sit at my kitchen table and enjoy the happy scene

Sip my morning coffee and watch nature so serene

Now that I’m retired, have no deadlines to chase

So, pleased I can watch life moving at a natural pace

Write a rhymed poem with its focus on idyllic country life that would be characterized as pastoral poetry.
