a fun little poem about the runt of the sheep litter getting her revenge as she gets to drink water while watching her siblings duke it out. Loved the images the simple language and the use of personification

Hi, Mark.

Way to let your farm experience inspire you to write this light-hearted poem with a message! (Great photo as well...)

Seems like in the animal kingdom, as with humans, we all have different strengths and weaknesses...

At five feet tall, I can attest it's not so bad being small! I can always grab a ladder...but brain cells are harder to come by!

(smile)

You're another one of FanStory's "dual threats", both a skilled writer and photographer. If I tried to photograph myself in a mirror, both the lens and the mirror would crack. Thank you for an entertaining poem I was able to read before my Internet went out.

I must save this and show it to my granddaughter, who is saving up money for college and is working on a sheep farm. She will surely find this amusing.
I do as well, as I have never seen much of how animals of the same breed can differ so, but I do love how you describe it very well in your fun poem.
It was a fun read this morning, and thanks for sharing. Debi

This poem, Spring Lambs, finds the situation being broken down by the runt and the decision occurring that there are faster sheep, and there are stronger sheep, but he is the smarter sheep.

The animal kingdom has many similarities with the human one. The God that created them both probably did so on purpose. A study of the holy scriptures give clues to that effect. Sinners are likened to lambs that stray away from the flock, God's own son Jesus is called the Lamb of God. I made the connection almost immediately.

It sounds like these spring lambs can outrun you all as they have a spring in their step! I enjoyed the fun in this post, good luck with the contest, love Dolly x

Nice complementary picture art choice.
Indeed, being small can have its benefits. The oldest and biggest are not always the smartest. Good imagery from the poem, as I can imagine the small, young lamb quietly walking around to suck from its mother's other teat, while its siblings struggle for one. Good luck in the contest.

Ciao poet, you now have two votes.

Foals looks so sweet when they frolic and lambs look cute when they jump around in the field.

I love it when animals speak and we get to hear what they are saying to each other.
Babe' is one of my all time films.

That said:

It's sad the million don't get to enjoy life in the fields but finish up on peoples table for Easter and Christmas.

This is a very sweet poem. Yes, I can identify being small and trying to find alternative ways in overcoming physical deficiencies with the power of the brain. I particularly liked the association of the picture with "When they butt me, I always lose." However, overall, I didn't find the rhythm/flow associated with a poem that sets it apart from prose:

Overall, I enjoyed it.

Best of luck for the contest.

That is because it is free verse. Perhaps you should educate yourself on it before reviewing it again. 4 stars are reserved for writing that needs adjustments. It is not for you to say you do not understand a whole genre of poetry. Thank you for your time.

I didn't mean to upset you. In my mind, even a free verse poem has a certain flow, a rhythm that sets it apart from prose. I agree that other than a 6-star, every rating needs adjustment to reach the next level. It seems that most poems that I have come across so far, get 5 stars on this site. Thanks for educating me. I will follow the "average" rule from now on. Once again, I apologize for upsetting you.

As I understand it free verse is an open form of poetry. It does not use consistent meter patterns, rhyme, or any musical pattern. It thus tends to follow the rhythm of natural speech.

Thank you for your response. I hope I didn't upset you too much. =)
