This is one of those stories that won't be soon forgotten because in reality something very similar might someday have to happen. I just read this morning where Japan's super aged society has caused there to be 9-million homes to be left empty. That's a whole lot of wasted meat. Sick! Thanks for sharing.

Hi there,

this is a good piece. I hope it does well in the competition.

The plotting is good and it unfolds naturally at a good pace. Of course, folks do things for a variety of reasons, although it may taste like beef, surely it'd be a bit tough with the elderly! lol

All the best

What a wonderful and very intriguing read, making use of the nearly dead,
a concept that I hope will never be considered, but who knows, your story captures the readers/my interest from the start, it all boils down to money, very well written, best wishes for your contest****kahpot

Well, you've definitely got your teeth into this prompt! It suits you down to the ground. Your story is well structured, evolving into this horror tale of abusing (to put it mildly!) these poor elderly guinea pigs in the interests of wealth and power (who would think!)! Whoever said, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is! This works due to excellent dialogue and background detail about disease, making it all a compelling and almost credible read. Thanks for sharing and good luck! Debbie

One word first ... GROSS!

I got the impression after reading subject 494A taste test that the story was headed in that direction.

Solving world hunger, over population and what to do with the elderly in one full swoop... still gross.

But, a good viable entry to the contest. Best of luck!

John

You got me. I didn't have a clue what you were up to. Nacho Night will have to be enjoyed by others.
Good luck in the contest.

I think this should appear in one of the paying SF online mags. Very good story, a bit like Soylent Green but a different solution, using healthy but old specimens and making it look and taste like beef chunks.

OMG! This story is quite imaginative, detailed, and well thought out. Your descriptions made it easy to envision each character. Dialogue was realistic. However, I didn't fully get your message and meaning until I read your author's notes mentioning 'eating people.' OMG! Best wishes in the contest.

This piece skillfully weaves together multiple narrative threads to create a compelling and thought-provoking story. The dialogue between Hattie and Dr. Magnus effectively establishes the tension and ambiguity surrounding the experimental treatment she is receiving. Hattie's reluctance and skepticism, coupled with Dr. Magnus's reassurances and veiled motives, create a sense of unease and intrigue. Good Luck in the contest, and thank you for sharing.

This was absolutely horrifying! You wrote the story well, but it will probably give me nightmares. I guess that's a good thing, since it means you evoked a strong response in your reader. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.
