Ciao ! you have 4 votes now.

For many years I collected smooth pebbles and glass. I always wondered how long these gem-looking objects were in the water to become so precious.

I love the metaphor: a jagged piece of glass ( a young person) tossed about in numerous storms (life trials) will be shaped and its rough edges smoothed out in time. ( trials help us refine our character and become stronger )

Best of luck in the contest!

Every trial ( every storm) we become

Jessica,

This is a excellent entry worthy of being considered in the
Poem of the Month contest. I wish I had another 6 stars to give you.

You've created a exceptional well written poem that is rich with metaphor and personification. I especially like the following stanzas:

Cradled by the tides,
stroked by fingers
of the frothy sea,
erasing jagged edges.

And I...
have been made patient;
made resilient.

A fragment,
not forgotten,
but softened
by the brine.

All the best in the contest,

Eugene

I liked how you handled the free verse form here, I liked the rhythm of the language, kind of wavering, like the waves in the sea. And the images of the rocks breaking into shards, pieces, is an image that captures the brittle nature of the self, along with the fragility of it. In the end, the timeless waves wear the sharp jagged pieces smoothe, just as time wears the jagged edges of broken relationships into softer forms. Well imagined and well executed. estory

This is really a wonderful metaphor for life, the troubles that toss and turn us, shaping us into beings that are less jagged around the edges. It is as if you write with a paintbrush. Beautiful!

Very nice, indeed. The glass shard theme that you maintained throughout was fantastic.

You are a magical unicorn, Jessica with your ability to produce such beauty.

Awesome.

I love sea glass and have quite a collection! Your poem beautifully portrays that we are never really broken...

We may tumble and toss in this sea of life, but we will be born anew!

So true, each storm teaches us a lesson. And like the seaglass smoothed by the rough and tumble of the waves we too can get through the tough times. A lovely addition to your 'silent voices' poems Jessica.

A very beautiful choice of words. Your poetry flows so smoothly. Before I lost my mobility, I used to haunt the shores for shell treasures and ran into other collectors, some of sea rocks, some of glass. If the sea glass could talk, they'd do it in your words.
