The Perfect Crime

"He did it!"
"Don't be ridiculous. Max wouldn't hurt anyone."
"But I saw it with my own eyes!" Henry insisted. "Max was chasing Whiskers and broke the bowl."
"An accident! Lester was a fish out of water."
Max growled at Whiskers. "That bowl was already empty."
Nonchalantly, the feline licked her paws. "You, my friend, can't prove it."
The six-year-old twins said farewell, covered Lester's grave, and left.
Whiskers purred, "I'll be back for dinner."
She'd committed the perfect crime.
